A title I have my eye on is From Speedpainting To Matte Painting, but I haven’t managed to get hold of this yet, I will let you know if I do.

Character Design

Well if you are interested in Character design and development, I would suggest getting hold of the Massive Black: Marko Djurdjevic – Character Ideation DVD.  Although it wont make you a better artist, it is still very interesting to watch him create these characters.  Its nice to see how a professional does it. I have read somewhere that watching people doing anything actually helps us learn as our brain puts itself in the same situation, I believe it was related to Wimbledon and the average skill level of the nation as it was being broadcast on television.  Even if that is nonsense you are bound to get something out of this, whether you want to design games characters, animation characters, concepts for film characters, it will give you something.

There are also of course several DVDs by Gnomon on character design and development also, which I would imagine are excellent.

Massive black also have quite a range of DVDs and downloadable content.  Although I have not seen that many of their releases, the quality I have seen is very high.  They also have a large input with ConceptArt.org.

If you are stuck for ideas to illustrate, there is a link to a random concept generator at the side, its quite fun even to press the button and imagine the scenes without actually creating them, i am sure it must flex some brain muscle.

At some point i may even venture far enough to post some of my scanned work on here, we shall see.
